Digital notebook app Evernote has taken a break from weaning us off paper and into the cloud, with a new Moleskine deal seeing the cult pads made app-enabled. The Evernote Smart Notebook by Moleskine works with the freshly updated Evernote apps for iPhone and iPad, offering the ability to digitize handwritten notes and sketches simply by taking a photo, and assign them to folders and with tags by slapping on a sticky label.

Evernote buys handwriting app Penultimate

Evernote, the cloud syncing note service, has acquired Penultimate, the handwriting iPad app designed by Cocoa Box. The creator of Penultimate, Ben Zotto, will be joining the Evernote team in order to create tight integration between the two services. The standalone iPad app will also live on, with Evernote saying there’s no immediate plans to discontinue the app.

Microsoft has brought its OneNote digital notetaking app to Android, the latest cross-platform push from the Windows company as its software teams spread their wares beyond their own PC, gaming and mobility devices. A free download from the Android Market, OneNote allows you to create text and image notes and sync them across to the full Office 2010 version as well as the web-based viewer using SkyDrive storage.

The two free iPhone apps aim to satisfy some of what are said to be the full service's most common uses; for instance, Evernote Hello pulls together a face photo, time of meeting and the context, allowing for easier recall later on.
