New Android phone puts all chips on speaker upgrade

Two teaser images from Lenovo reveal the full body of their next smartphone, one whose power rests in speaker quality. Oddly enough, these speakers appear to be sitting on the back of the phone, not the front. As such, users will need to place the smartphone face-down to get the full experience. Like some previous Lenovo smartphones, this one comes with Dolby sound technology – and Dolby branding. Does that make the device enticing enough to consider for you?The image that indicates sound power has a single ripple emanating from the back of the device. While we see two separate speaker grilles, it's seems likely that this device has mono sound output – especially considering Lenovo's past releases and their reasonable end-pricing points.SEE: Lenovo Tango phone revealed – Google 3D mapping time!

The next iPhone has been tipped to drop its headphone jack, making way for wireless audio – or Lighting cord-centric audio in the near future. While there very well could be enough phone under the image we see here to hold a headphone jack, for now Lenovo doesn't seem keen to mention it.

And what of the new wave of smartphones running front-facing stereo speakers? The trend began with the brand "BoomSound" from HTC with the HTC One. Then came each successive HTC One with the same awesome front-facing speakers – then devices from other manufacturers.

The most recent awesome front-facing speaker phone being the Nextbit Robin.

What's below is a set of specifications that are based on precedent and anonymous insider tips. This set of specifications does not come from Lenovo officially, but we would not be surprised if this smartphone fit the bill:

Display: 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD (1080p)

Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 616, Adreno 405 GPU

RAM: 3GB

Internal Storage: 32GB

Storage Expansion: microSD up to 128GB

Body: Aluminum, Gorilla Glass

Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0 (standard, pre-C)

The device this new smartphone likely joins in spirit is the Lenovo Lemon 3. That device is available now in China in a variety of forms – coming in silver, like you see above, as well as gold.

Lenovo's event with a full reveal of this device will take place at some point after the 22nd of February – that's when Mobile World Congress 2016 begins.
