Being on the road this weekend really gave me an opportunity to test out the new LG Voyager from Verizon Wireless. The handset takes a similar form factor to the Sidekick but is neither as long nor as tall – making it much more enjoyable to use as a phone. It dawned on me Saturday morning that I desperately needed a haircut! I had my laptop and a few other options (even a phone book) to find a shop nearby that was open on a Saturday morning.

Using VZ Navigator on the LG Voyager was much easier than flipping through a phone book or accessing other online services such as Google Maps. I had the option to call the business directly to find out price and availability, and if I found one open, I could simply have the Voyager map out and guide me there. Click over to enjoy the demo walkthrough.
These two pictures were taken with the LG Voyager’s 2.0-megapixel camera, outside of Amy’s Salon in Wichita. They’re not too shabby.

Amy was completely booked but due to my emergency, she was going to fit me in if I was willing to wait around. I didn’t mind since I had the Voyager to keep me entertained. While watching Mobile TV, Caden and Camden were also waiting to get their haircut and caught wind of the Voyager and asked if there’re any cartoons? Why of course — I replied. For the next hour, I sat and watched them enjoy the Voyager. Enjoy the video!
I finally found some time tonight to record this demo of the browser on the LG Voyager along with a very brief walk-through of the menu. Take a look, and let me know if you have any questions.

thanks for that info. very nice!
Does the VZ navigator come free with the voyager? Or do you have to pay a 10$ subscription fee still?
are there any t9 or Word texting abilites on the front touch screen?
There are Verizon plans that now include the Navigator unlimited use (will still burn your plan minutes, when you use/access the navigator.)

Could you do a video of the music player interface? I would like to see how practical the voyager is as an mp3 player (actually unprotected aac, as I am an iTunes user).
Does the Voyager support third party applications?
don’t think so…does the envy lol
Very good info. … thank you very much…
I understand u can have up to 8GB micro SD.
That’s alot of music files… How about playing AVI or WMV / any video files?
Thanks..
will this phone work in the UK and if so will i get all of the features? will it accept different sim cards (is it unlocked/can it be unlocked) will i get all of the same features if i use a pay as you go sim card or another company’s sim card?
hey im dieing for the voyager but i was wondering… on the web browsing is myspace good? and can you go on youtube?
Jack, unfortunately Verizon use CDMA, not GSM, so the Voyager won’t work with any of the UK networks.
i like
I ordered the phone through my verizon store and they said it would be here on wednesday the 21st. Then they said it would be here the friday after. It still didn’t come and the store owner said it would be here the wednesday after. And it still didn’t come. I live in richmond Va and the store owner said that there will be no voyagers here for a while. I can’t get my money back since i allready payed. It sucks
wow i am sorry to hear about that. the same thing happened to me. i messed around with the demo in the kansas city, kansas store and i pre-ordered one in the store. they put me on the list but then for some reason they moved me down. they apologized and moved me back up then i got moved back down. finally i was tired of the store assitant so i just ordered one online.
i personally think these reveiws are amazing helped me learn a few things about my phone that havent figured out yet well thanks keep slashgear updated and ill take a look
Ok, I plan on buying an unlocked Voyager or unlocking it myself w/ the code. I am currently w/ Tmobile & as long as it can use a sim card I wont have to change any contract by switching carriers. Can it accept sim cards?
well the voyager i got got here in one day they said it was going to be atleast 8 to 10 days so when the fed ex guy came knocking i though it was parts that i had order for my Mustang Cobra but nope it was the voyager im so happy with it thanks

No verizon is CDMA it can only be used with verizon and can not be unlocked or use sim cards.
this guy in this youtube video looks like he is making a cheap imitation of that seafood iphone commercial. Seriously like all that is new. iPhone is infinitely better than that pos and is worth the money. Throughout that whole video he points out so many problems with it, its quite funny. For example the constant flipping from keyboard to touch screen. And whats the deal with that antaenna??! You walk around with that thing playing these days and people are going to think you are about detonate a bomb. Yea ok the moble internet video stream stuff is cool and all but almost all verizon phones do it, voyager just has a larger screen. Still not comparable to the iPhone’s resolution and screen size. There is no way this product is innovative except for its possible battery charge guzzling because everytime this guys is using it the battery is quite low. With the integration of a music store and easy to use music and video imput with itunes the iphone clear blows this out of the water. They only great thing about the voyager is is sheer size. Its almost the equvalent of 3 iphones. If you people want to walk around with a cinderblock in your pocket go right ahead but it is not worth the shame of iphone users seeing that huge bulge in your pocket and laughing inside, mocking, “HA he has a voyager. lmao!”
Wow, very snazzzy it reminded me much of the iPhone, go FIGURE!
But I really like the two kids and their reviews quite cute I must say.
Personally I think I’m going to like the Voyager more than the iPhone because of the flip-open qwerty keyboard. Does it have built in wi-fi (the hotspot kind, not VZW network wi-fi)?
no,no,no,no,aaaaaaannd no..
Well I got my Voyager in about 5 days of ordering it. It has some cool features. I like the keyboard, it does make text messaging easier for newbies and those not used to useing word mode. I really liked my Gleam a little bit better because the speakers were a lot clearer. I will keep my Voyager for now though. It runs well. Not exactly happy with the battery getting low after a full day but for the screen size I would say it is still worth it. My Gleam lasted 4 days on a charge. Well good luck fellow voyager users!!
Rob
my friend had the voyager but just bought an iPhone so he gave it to me. Can I use some sort of pre paid with it so i can use the internet or just prepaid minutes because I already have another phone?
i was wondering if navigation on the voyager is free or do you have to pay monthly for it.
can you go on youtube with it
do u have to pay for internet or is it wi-fi or something..
and how about that “mobile tv”
I really, really, really want one of these phones, but i live in Australia. do u think i could buy 1 and unlock it on an australian network??
All I can wonder is are all Iphone owners such dorks.
iPhone? it’s pretty cool, but it doesn’t have what i’m looking for in a personal phone. VZ Navigator is infinitely better for my needs than the Google maps that the iPhone has. and i’m a big fan of a qwerty keyboard that has punctuation marks and numbers instead of an “alternate keyboard” like the iPhone has. i also enjoy the tactile response of real buttons. call me old fashioned. i can also type faster with my keyboard than my friend can on his iPhone and he’s a lead guitarist and lightning fast typist on a regular keyboard, so he doesn’t exactly have slow fingers. i’ll give the iPhone props for it’s web browsing capabilities, and it seems to be much more stable than my business Verizon phone, which is a Windows based pocket pc phone. there are things i really love about the iPhone, but when it comes to the features that i use most and that are most important to me, the iPhone gets poor marks from me as compared to my personal Verizon phone. for business though, i do think the iPhone would be more useful than what i currently use.
