iPad 5 tipped with 8MP camera, iPad mini 2 in short supply

With the next Apple event coming on quick, the folks at KGI have suggested that both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 will be coming with not just updated casings, but an updated back-facing camera too. The 5th generation iPad has been predicted to be appearing in bulk, so says KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, while the iPad mini 2 will be in slightly short supply due to the lack of full-speed-ahead retina display production. Meanwhile both devices will be appearing, says Ming-Chi, with 8-megapixel back-facing cameras in tow.

It's suggested that both the iPad mini 2 and the iPad 5 will be produced in bulk by the time 2014 rolls around, but before then (according to Rueters), numbers will be restricted for the smaller of the two devices. With the iPad 5 ready and raring to go, you'll find KGI research's EMS shipments results & estimates chart to have Apple producing more of the larger tablet than they've made in a single quarter since the iPad mini at the start of this year.

The iPad mini 2, meanwhile, won't be produced until the last quarter of the year, with Apple focusing on the iPad 5th generation model as a star for the holiday season. Both devices are tipped here to work with the same camera module here, though it's not clear whether Apple will choose to push the same technology on the iPads as they have the new iPhone 5s. It's likely the camera setup on these tablets will be closer to that of the iPhone 5c.

Over the past several weeks, upstream parts suppliers have gotten their hands on the likes of what would very much appear to be the 5th generation iPad and the iPad mini 2 in several colors. It seems that Apple will release both models in at least classic silver and Space Gray, if not Gold as well. May as well jump aboard the Tyrant King ship while we're at it.
