Facebook event set for arrival of "new product" next week

As if the announcement and launch of Facebook Home wasn't enough, Facebook has yet another event in the pipeline for next week that looks to unveil "a new product" that supposedly comes from "a big idea." The event is scheduled to take place on June 20 at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, CA.

The invitation, which was sent through good 'ole fashioned snail mail, reads "A small team has been working on a big idea...Join us for coffee and learn about a new product." As you can probably tell, and contrary to past event invites from the social network, Facebook gives absolutely no clues as to what to expect.

However, that doesn't mean we can't speculate, right? Even though it's been rather quiet on the Facebook front after the company revealed Facebook Home back in April, they did say that we would see monthly updates for the new app launcher, and since they're always making changes to the site, we wouldn't be surprised if it was yet another new feature for users to take advantage of.

It's also possible that they could reveal a new physical product, like they did with the HTC First in partnership with the Taiwanese phone maker. Or perhaps it's that just-recently rumored RSS reader that we learned about today, possibly being their own version of a Google Reader replacement. The timing for that would be rather perfect, seeing as how it's getting close for the doors to close on Google Reader, but in any case, we'll see what Facebook has up their sleeves come next week.
