Elgato Avea Flare is a wirelessly charged 8-hour mood lamp

This week the folks at Elgato have revealed a torch – a medium-sized lamp that shines light in all directions and stays powered up wirelessly for 8-hours at a time. This lamp also connects to your smartphone, allowing you to change its color with Elgato's own unique app. This (along with the Avea Bulb and Eve, revealed earlier this year) ushers in a new sort of age for Elgato (in the public's eye, anyway) where they go from video processing hardware and software to a much wider collection of app-powered lifestyle accessories.

Inside the app you'll find a collection of pre-set color combinations like "Northern Glow" and "Magic Hour". These combinations subtly change the atmosphere by changing colors gradually – Magic Hour changes between soft pink, orange and red hues.

You'll be connecting to the app on a variety of devices, if you do so choose, including the iPhone 4S or later, iPod touch (5th gen or later), iPad mini or iPad (3rd gen or later); with iOS 9 or later. Android devices will work as well – Elgato lists the Samsung Galaxy S4, S4 mini, Note II or later; Bluetooth Smart Ready with Android 5 or later.

You'll also be able to work with an Apple Watch – just so long as it has watchOS 2 or later.

Avea Flare works with IP65 water resistance – so just in case you want to sit out in the rain with a green hue near you, you can do so. You could also spill a drink on this lamp and you'd be totally OK to just wipe it off with a damp rag.
