Near the end of 2015, Florida-based smartphone maker BLU Products challenged Motorola's popularity in the mid-range market by pitting its new BLU Life One X against the 3rd gen Moto G. Now that the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus are out, it was perhaps time to revisit that contest. Indeed, BLU has just announced the Life One X2 which does step up the game, expanding storage options and adding a fingerprint scanner. All while mostly still keeping the same low price tag.

For this round, BLU switched out the MediaTek processor for a Qualcomm one, a 1.4 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 430 to be exact. Although it will run circles around the 3rd gen Moto G, it sadly falls short of the Snapdragon 617 inside this year. The Life One X2 does make up for it in memory configurations. There are two available, one with the same 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage option, but there's also a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage model. For a price, of course.

Those aren't the only things that have been improved. The main camera now boasts of a 16 megapixel sensor while the front has also been upgraded to a wide-angle 8 megapixel sensor with its own LED flash. Now that it uses a Snapdragon processor, the Life One X2 can take advantage of the latest Quick Charge 3.0 tech to quickly boost the 3,000 mAh battery.

BLU Products is particularly proud of the fact that it was able to cram a fingerprint scanner inside, which it claims to be "ultra fast". That is, indeed, a rare feature in a sub-$200 smartphone.

In most other aspects, the BLU Life One X2 retains its predecessors features, like the 5.2-inch Full HD screen. It happily also retains the $149.99 price tag, at least for the 2 GB RAM/16 GB storage base model. The 4 GB/16 GB configuration isn't that much higher, at only $199.99.

The BLU Life One X2 is available, unlocked, of course, on Amazon in Gun-Metal Grey and Rose Gold colors.
