Yahoo Voices and more to close down as services are pared

Yahoo has announced another business move, this one involving trimming the proverbial fat from its services. Said Senior Vice President of the Cloud Platform Group Jay Rossiter, the company has updated its plans to shut down products that aren't so popular anymore, among them being things like its Yahoo Voices content platform.

The dates the services will go down varies, with the full list being made available on the company's Tumblr page. People Search, for example, went down yesterday, being its first closure since Yahoo Bookmarks went offline on May 26. Xobni also went down yesterday, and will be followed by the Yahoo Toolbar on Chrome on July 22.

Yahoo Shine will follow that, closing on July 31, though its Yahoo Travel and Yahoo Beauty counterparts will continue. Yahoo Voices and Contributor Network, where anyone could write articles in exchange for page view revenue, will also be going down on July 31.

Says the company, Yahoo will be focusing on "four core areas" comprised of Communications, Search, Digital Magazines, and Video — the latter of which is demonstrated in its recent Community news. Flick and Tumblr will also continue to get a big focus from the company.
