Verizon Wear24 LTE smartwatch has been discontinued

This past summer, Verizon launched its own Android Wear smartwatch called the Wear24. Now, less than a handful of months later, Verizon has discontinued the wearable. It's surprising news given its very short lifespan, though the wearable's high cost in a crowded market makes it easy to see how consumers decided to pass this model over.

Verizon quietly discontinued the Wear24, not making any grand announcements about the device's elimination from the carrier's online store. If you try to access it on the Verizon website, though, you'll simply be directed to its support page. Search for the product on the Verizon site and the only results — aside from documentation — is the Wear24 charger.

A Verizon spokesperson confirmed to Android Police that the wearable has been discontinued, but no explanations about why were provided. The watch was launched back in March of this year at a cost of $350 outright or $300 if you wanted to be shackled to a contract. The wearable supported Verizon's LTE network, eliminating the phone tether.

Such a price point put Verizon's smartwatch in direct competition with similar Android Wear devices from big-name companies like Motorola, ones more heavily publicized and better known amongst casual consumers. Even Apple's newest Apple Watch wearable is cheaper than Verizon's offering, and it comes with a better potential resale value.
