Touchscreen hybrid OS X/iOS iMac tipped for imminent debut?

Talk of a touchscreen iMac refuses to die, and with Steve Jobs constantly praising our fingers as the ideal way to interact with tablets, smartphones and other portable gadgets, it hardly seems surprising that there are persistent rumors that Apple will roll that sort of functionality further up their food chain.  LOOPRumors claims to have heard that a special Apple event is on the cards, where the company will launch a new hybrid iMac with both regular OS X and iOS touch capabilities.

The exact details of the new iMac are unclear, but it's suggested that Apple plan to offer both a regular OS X environment for normal work and a touch-controlled iOS environment in the same hardware.  That would allow developers to more readily create iOS apps, for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, but also open up the iMac into a more casual system for family use.  The source reckons the Apple event will be held within the next sixty days.
