Back in February Toshiba unveiled the industry's highest capacity SFF HDD for enterprise users called the Toshiba MBF series. Today Toshiba has announced that the new MBF drive is available in volume. The drive is a 2.5-inch enterprise-class HDD aimed at the data center needing lots of storage in small amount of space.
The 2.5-inch HDD can be used in volume servers, storage arrays, blade servers and rack servers. Other than smaller space requirements allowing for higher storage densities, the 2.5-inch drive also uses less power than a comparable 3.5-inch HDD.
The MBF family has a highest capacity offered of 600GB and uses the 6Gb/s SAS interface with a speed of 10,025 rpm. The MBF drive is also offered in 450GB and 300GB with all capacities using the same 16MB buffer.
