Tinder close to finalizing its advertising system

The pattern should be clear by now: social networking companies offer their service to users for free, and once they grow to a certain level, it's time to start making money with advertisements. Well, everyone's favorite swipe-right-swipe-left dating app Tinder is looking to join the ranks of Facebook and Twitter by showing users ads in the near future. As the company gears up to begin generating revenue, sources say they shopping around for potential partners to fill the advertising space in their app.

Speaking to Re/code, these sources say Tinder has already spoken to both Facebook and Twitter about using their own ad networks once ready. Who better to ask than the top two players in the game, right?

It still remains unclear how Tinder will implement ads into their app, whether it could be a small banner under each user image, or a full card that shows up after so many swipes. The company that has a controlling stake in Tinder, IAC, has long been saying that ads were coming to the platform, however this has been slow to materialize. As of February, the company said during an earnings call that it expects to making ad revenue within the year.

Much like Facebook, advertisers will probably be eager to jump on Tinder, due to how much personal info its users share in order to use the service. In addition to data like gender, age, location, and interests, it's a safe bet that a majority of dating app users are single. Some ads that would be a natural fit for the service, and could even be useful, may include local restaurants and bars, or any other common places people go on dates.
