Telefonica inks Windows Phone 8 promo (but goes light on specifics)

Microsoft has been pushing to get Windows Phone 8 recognized as the "third ecosystem", insisting that carriers and consumers alike both want another alternative to iOS and Android, and now it has some vocal support from O2 parent Telefonica. The new announcement promises an "enhanced marketing effort" between the two companies, which will apparently see Telefonica boost promotion for Windows Phone handsets in six of its key markets.

Windows 8.1 download imminent: merging at Miracast

In less than 24 hours, Microsoft will be making Windows 8.1 available for download for all those users out there in the wild that work now with a full version of Windows 8. This release is being tipped as being a bit of a veil for a much larger shake-up to the Microsoft desktop and mobile ecosystem, said to be merging the two into one in a massive undertaking that'll dwarf the many tiny changes to the Windows software family. This isn't just about booting to desktop.

Windows and Windows Phone merge tipped as peak of big Ballmer shake-up

Microsoft could pull together its Windows and Windows Phone divisions into a single, unified team as part of the upcoming "major" reorganization, it's suggested, better emphasizing the connections between the company's PC and smartphone offerings. Chatter of a significant juggling in Microsoft's various divisions began earlier this month, with CEO Steve Ballmer said to be planning considerable changes to how it was organized as it positions itself as "a devices and services company." That, it's claimed now, includes breaking down the walls between the Windows and Windows phone teams.

Nokia EOS aluminum body prototype leaks: unlikely to hit market

If you're thinking the leaked photos you're about to have a peek at below are going to be released as a final-form Nokia EOS, you might want to re-think your summer smartphone buying strategy. What we're seeing here are several angles on a less-than-production-quality iteration of a Nokia phone - not quite the same as the EOS that we'll be setting eyes on in less than a month (July 11th, that is). What's a bit more likely is that this was a prototype of the smartphone or a potential body for a next-generation Lumia.

Nokia “Zoom Reinvented” event confirmed: EOS PureView likely star

Nokia has fired out invites for a New York launch event, teasing with the tagline "Zoom Reinvented" in what could be the official reveal of the Nokia EOS PureView. The event, taking place on July 11, will be a chance to "see more from Nokia" according to the invite, and judging by the magnifying glass and the teaser, we'd not be surprised if some lossless digital zoom magic in the manner of the original 808 PureView was on the cards.

Nokia EOS vs Lumia 920 shows just how small true PureView got

Nokia's EOS PureView camera has cropped up in the wild again, now getting up close comparison-style with the Lumia 920 and showing just how little has changed from the front of the Windows Phone, at least. The new image, shared by perennial EOS tipster ViziLeaks, shows that the two handsets are largely identical, though the protruding camera bulge of the unannounced phone does tip it at an angle.

Apple’s iTunes Radio “playing catch up with Nokia Music” suggests Nokia VP

It's not often that Nokia gets to take a moment to snark on Apple, so it's certainly not surprising that immediately after Apple releases information on their iTunes Radio service, the VP of Nokia Entertainment has responded with a reminder about Nokia Music. As iTunes Radio was made official, this streaming music service with iAd integration and the ability to purchase songs on the fly was picked at by Nokia.
