circuitcitySystemax already owns TigerDirect and recently acquired CompUSA, which the company has plans to revive, but the computer company is looking to expand even further with the acquisition of the Circuit City name.

They will have to put in a bid before May 11th. The estimated cost for this venture would be $6.5 million–this includes the website and the brand name. We currently don’t know if anyone else is bidding on it, or if Systemax will even go through with this, but it seems a likely move.

Especially when you consider the forward-thinking moves Systemax has been taking lately by reopening CompUSA stores with a different attitude (easing up on demo unit restrictions and matching online prices) and expanding their retail presence.

The Medallion XV, Medallion XVII, Pursuit 4165, and Pursuit 4250 are all blessed with Santa Rosa. The two Medallion models are 15.4 (XV) and 17 (XVII) inch models respectively and range in base price from $879 to $1350.

Thankfully, with those two at least, you get your choice of XP or Vista. They also are packing a 1.3MP webcam, and the XVII features nVidia GeForce 512MB graphics, Bluetooth, Stereo speakers complete with a subwoofer, and a piano black finish.

Systemax, the budget PC manufacturer who you might recognize from their significant presence on TigerDirect, has a couple of new Workstation systems you can have built to order. They aren’t playing around with these systems either, they are just barely budget, but they aren’t using proprietary components, they are using name brand Intel hardware, Kingston RAM, and nVidia or ATI graphics.

There are two models with the primary differences being price and storage solutions. The $2199 model offers up SATA supporting 7.5k and 10k RPM drives, the $2299 model offers up an SAS solution that will support up to 15k RPM drives, the only thing that offers better response times than that is solid state.
