How Target’s Mobile Ecosystem works and how it could Improve

, Aug 28th 2011 Discuss [25]

Welcome to Minnesota, Earth – Target Brand department store originating right here in my midwest place of birth, aiming for and achieving a spread across North America like a wildfire – and like any forward thinking place of business, they want to get in on the mobile business to keep their show on the road. Therefor they’ve created Target Mobile Store, or simply “mobile” by Target Brand and powered by Simplexity – this group, if you did not know, only handles online sales of cell phones and wireless service, thus you wont see “SIMPLEXITY” plastered all over the electronics department at your local physical Target location. Inside the store you’ll find an endcap with four devices, a wall full of display units, and several aisles away you’ll find two Apple displays, another aisle containing two Android tablets.

Tablet Computer Spotted in 1968 Kubrick Classic, Cited in Samsung Case

, Aug 23rd 2011 Discuss [13]

It appears that the very first place one might see a tablet computer in action, at least one looking so minimalistic as an iPad, is in the 1968 film “2001: A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick. This movie features at least one scene in which a couple of tablets are used to compute while breakfast is being consumed by their users. What this particular scene is being used for at this very moment is so-called evidence that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet design does not use the iPad 2 for inspiration, that instead a single screen with little border surrounding it used for computing has been a common design for a “tablet” computer for quite some time.

Samsung secretly filed protective pleading to avoid Apple injunction

Court documents concerning the preliminary sales injunction Apple was granted against the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 suggest the Korean company may not have been as blindsided by the court decision as it subsequently claimed. According to Samsung's official statement, "the request for injunction was filed with no notice to Samsung, and the order was issued without any hearing or presentation of evidence from Samsung"; however, the court press release [pdf link] confirms that almost a week before the injunction was granted, Samsung did in fact file a "Schutzschrift" or protective pleading to the German court. Samsung escapes Dutch injunction: Accuses Apple of design generalization

Samsung may not have had the opportunity to fight Apple’s European preliminary injunction against the Galaxy Tab 10.1 – only finding out that Apple had filed after the ban on sales was applied - but the company has come out fighting in the Netherlands hearing today. Samsung demanded that the Dutch courts throw out the case as it was simply too complex for summary proceedings, Webwereld reports, pointing out that plenty of electronic devices are flat, rectangular and have rounded corners and large screens, and that – based on Apple’s standards – every digital photo frame is in fact an iPad.
