iPhone 5 (N42) model appears with 4S price points

This week a tip has appeared noting several details on the next-generation iPhone, specifically on its price - that being the same as the iPhone 4S is now - and the model number. This iPhone 5, as it's currently being called, has been tipped to 9to5mac as being part of the iPhone N42 model line, this being the generation that does not work with NFC - this is in contrast the N41 model being tested earlier this year which has not made it to final production. The price structure of the iPhone 5 in model N42 is being shown as matching the current iPhone 4S in stores right this minute.

iPhone keeps smartphone satisfaction crown; Builds lead over Android

Apple has taken the top spot for customer satisfaction in the latest J.D. Power survey, the company's eighth successive win, and extending its lead over Android device manufacturers like HTC and Samsung. The iPhone maker scored 849 overall, up ten points over the last survey, and putting 59 points between it and second place holder HTC. The survey, which questions owners on their happiness with different aspects of the device ownership experience, found iPhone users were particularly pleased with the handset's physical design.

Galaxy S III knocks iPhone 4S from US top spot (but iPhone 5 looms)

Galaxy S III knocks iPhone 4S from US top spot (but iPhone 5 looms)

Apple's iPhone 4S has been knocked from the US smartphone sales top spot by Samsung's Galaxy S III, retailer checks suggest, though the fast-approaching iPhone 5 may well flip things back in Cupertino's favor. August was the first month that the iPhone 4S wasn't the best-selling smartphone in the US, Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley told CNET, having crunched the figures from retailers across the country.

iPhone 5 launch date imminent as 4S included in “recycling” program

iPhone 5 launch date imminent as 4S included in “recycling” program

Apple has launched a program on their own website called Reuse and Recycling in which they're more than willing to take your iPhone 4S for a gift certificate in their store. Of course the main reason a lot of people will be doing this is that once the iPhone 5 (or whatever it'll be called) is on the market, the iPhone 4S might not look so fabulous anymore. To the early adopter "must have it" crowd, that is.

iPhone 5 gets hd photo leak and video fondle

iPhone 5 gets hd photo leak and video fondle

Another set of photos appears to have been leaked of the iPhone 5, the next generation Apple smartphone set to be revealed - or so we've heard - some time next month. What these photos reveal is some high definition angles on the front panel of the phone showing how it will compare to the iPhone that's currently on the market as Apple's hero device. This next-generation iPhone continues to appear to have a 4-inch display with essentially the same wideness of body that the previous generation has right this minute.

iPhone 5 mini dock appears in new shell photos

iPhone 5 mini dock appears in new shell photos

This afternoon the folks at iResQ have snapped a few photos of what appears to be the back shell of the next-generation iPhone ready for release next month by Apple. This device appears to be essentially the same thickness as the previous generation iPhone 4/4S, but a major change appears in the bottom end of the smartphone's final build. Here it appears that a new generation of Apple mobile products may be born in a dock connector that is essentially 1/4 the size of the original 30-pin "iPod dock".

You can pick this bumper up from Apple stores across the USA starting immediately if not soon.

iPhone discounts go deep at Apple retail

iPhone discounts go deep at Apple retail

Today brings news that Apple is matching its competitors' prices on iPhones at its own retail stores, but the company doesn't want to make a big deal about it. MacRumors reports that Apple has implemented a new quiet policy that allows employees to price match on all iPhone 4S models and the iPhone 4, so if you want to buy directly from Apple but still want to get the best price possible, now is your chance. It should be noted, however, that Apple will only be price matching on sales made in-store, meaning online orders aren't eligible for the promotion.

If this is the iPhone 5, Android has a problem

If this is the iPhone 5, Android has a problem

Apple isn't due to show us the new iPhone 5 for another few months, but a purported leak of the next-gen smartphone could well indicate the extent of the headache Android has fast approaching. Taller and thinner, with a more engineered, structured design than the delicate glass and metal sandwich of the current model, if the leaked shots are to be believed then this could be the most significant outward evolution of the iPhone to-date. Nonetheless, there'll undoubtedly be those that look at the slightly larger display and aesthetic tweaks, and dismiss the iPhone 5 as "more of the same." In some ways, the spec-sheet arms race of Android devices has left us spoiled overall. If it hasn't got twice as many cores as before, a vast display, and more megapixels than the latest Canon DSLR, then it's hardly worth us paying attention to, right?
