HTC EVO 4G Review

HTC EVO 4G Review

Long anticipated, hugely specified and just plain huge: there's a lot to like about the HTC EVO 4G. The first WiMAX phone in the US brings with it the promise of DSL-like mobile data access along with the flexibility of Google's Android OS, complete with HTC's now-legendary hardware quality and flexible Sense UI. On the flip side it's nowhere near cheap and WiMAX coverage is marginal. Is this new superphone faster than a speeding bullet, or is that just how quickly it drains its battery? Check out the full SlashGear review after the cut.

Root for HTC EVO 4G cracked in hours [Video]

Root for HTC EVO 4G cracked in hours [Video]

The HTC EVO 4G isn't even in the hands of gleeful preorder customers yet, but when Google handed the WiMAX-toting handset out to the developers at Google IO last week they must've expected some early hacking action.  Assuming so, they won't be disappointed: three Android developers have put their heads together and come up with a root solution for the EVO 4G in just a few hours, quickly installing the standard su tool.

Unfortunately for anyone else with an EVO 4G they're not yet talking about the technical details of the root, which means we'll have to wait a little longer to try it out ourselves.  Our guess is that, once the handset is more generally available, we'll quickly see various hacked ROMs and modifications.

HTC EVO 4G first-impressions [unboxing video]

The HTC EVO 4G has landed, and considering it's one of the most eagerly anticipated Android smartphones of the year, it has a lot to live up to.  Packing a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, like its HTC HD2 cousin, together with Android 2.1 with HTC Sense, an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, both 3G EVDO Rev.A and WiMAX, and 720p HD video recording with an HDMI port, even the spec sheet is enough to prompt uncontrollable drooling.  First-impressions count with a smartphone like this, so check out our unboxing and hands-on feedback after the cut.

Sprint report $865m loss in Q1 2010: peg hopes on HTC EVO 4G

Sprint's first quarter 2010 financial results are out, and they don't make for happy reading if you're a shareholder of the carrier.  The company has reported net operating revenues of $8.1 billion, working out to a net loss of $865 million, while it's still haemorrhaging subscribers too: 75,000 net jumped ship in the three month period.  Still, Sprint are managing to make lemonade out of the numbers: that 75k loss, for instance, is a whopping 670,000 fewer than their disastrous Q1 2009 results, net revenues were up and they've still got $4.4bn in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments.
