Well hello there, Mr. Galaxy Nexus! What are you doing over there on the Play Store? Shouldn’t you be offered through carriers? It seems Google is going to try once again to sell unlocked handsets directly to the public. They’ve just unveiled the HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus on the Play Store for the very reasonable price of $399. Google's Galaxy Nexus is getting another CDMA release, with the Now Network picking up the LTE-enabled 4G Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone. Up for pre-order from today, priced at $199.99 - and thus undercutting Verizon by a hundred bucks - the Galaxy Nexus will support Google Wallet when it begins shipping on April 22 and, for those who sign up quickly, include $50 of free cash to spend. Samsung Galaxy S III non-Pentile 720p AMOLED tipped

More mystery and intrigue around the hotly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III, as Korean news reports tip not only a 4.65-inch 720p display like the Galaxy Nexus, but a move away from the much-maligned pentile panel technology. According to DDaily, the upcoming Galaxy S III will use a Super AMOLED Plus display running at 1280 x 720 for 316ppi density – only a little short of the iPhone 4S’ Retina Display – but not using the reduced pixel count that pentile forces. The rumors tally with talk that another recently rumored device, the GT-i9300, is indeed a midrange model not the Galaxy S III.

The US version of the Galaxy Nexus, featuring LTE on Verizon’s network, is already slightly thicker to accommodate a larger battery. If you want to take advantage of Verizon’s high speed network, then you have to pay the price is battery life, with some users opting for an extended battery to get them through the day. Google hoping to bring Voice integration to other carriers

A quick refresher if you’re not familiar with Google Voice: it allows you to choose a US phone number to serve as your central number. Any calls to that number can be filtered and forwarded to any of your phones accordingly. Other features like voicemail transcription and SMS forwarding are the cherries on top. Microsoft apologizes to “smoked by Windows Phone” winner

This morning we learned that funny business was going on with the “Smoked by Windows Phone” campaign. Sahas Katta went to a Microsoft store and took the test with his Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Even though he won the challenge, “bring up the weather of two different cities” as quickly as possible, the store reps claimed he still lost. Microsoft's "Smoked by Windows Phone" campaign has landed the company in hot water, with claims that the competitive promotion - which pits WP7 devices against rivals in speed tests - is being unfairly judged. The marketing scheme attempts to demonstrate how Windows Phone's Live Tiles, among other things, make it a speedier platform than iOS or Android, challenging users of other devices to head-to-head tasks; unfortunately, as Skatter Tech found when pitting a Galaxy Nexus against Windows Phone in the Santa Clara Microsoft Store, it's also subject to the whims of store staff. The latest entry in what is the closest to being "the official" Android product line will be available on a new carrier less than a month from now.
