Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2.2 update rolling out today

We've known for several weeks that Verizon's Galaxy Nexus would be updated to the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but today the news is official, and Verizon has announced that the rollout will begin today. This week we’re seeing the last of the iterations of the so-called Galaxy “Nexus” as it exists on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. The Verizon Galaxy Nexus (made by Samsung, mind you) has since birth been plagued with talk of its mudblood-like software from the carrier as Verizon modified its contents past what Google originally intended – thus besmirching the purity of the Nexus smartphone line. Because of this Verizon-specific build, the Galaxy Nexus is last in line to receive the update to Android 4.2.2 – but here it is, ready for action!

Android 4.2.2 rolling out to GSM Galaxy Nexus and both Nexus tablets

Reports are rolling in from around the web that the Android 4.2.2 update is rolling out to the GSM Galaxy Nexus handset and both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets. The first reports sprang up on Reddit, and were followed closely by posts on Google+ and Twitter. Verizon Galaxy Nexus reaches End of Life with Galaxy S III and DROID RAZR

This week there've been a couple reports of Verizon hitting the End of Life marker for a variety of phones working with their 4G LTE network, this including (for starters) the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S III (32GB), and original DROID RAZR. When an official End of Life notification hits Verizon, this means that any devices tagged with said notification will no longer be shipped to retail locations and the carrier will be winding down advertisements for said devices as well. While this isn't a definitive marker for Verizon's end-of-service for software updates, End of Life is often indicative of lowered priority for the devices listed from that point forward. Samsung begs US court for permission to keep selling Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung and Apple court battle continues. Previously, Apple has asked the court to ban US sales of Galaxy devices from Samsung, and while the court has denied that inquiry at first, Samsung is urging the judges to stand by their decision to keep allowing sales of the company's Galaxy Nexus smartphone. Google is pushing out Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to Galaxy Nexus owners via an over-the-air update, but if you're impatient there are ways to jump the queue and grab the upgraded OS direct. The firmware for the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus (i.e. not Verizon's LTE-equipped handset) is available to download from Google's servers, for manual flashing. According to a photo taken of a database listing from what is said to be Carphone Warehouse in the UK, a listing of a 32GB version of the Nexus 7 appears, along with an Invisishield for a "Samsung Nexus 2." We've collided head-on with the month of August, and today we had some interesting news stories to ring in the eighth month of the year. Surprisingly enough, we didn't have too much news about the ongoing trial between Apple and Samsung, except for the part where Samsung made Apple really angry by sending evidence that the original iPhone was inspired by Sony designs out to the press. Samsung found itself in a bit of hot water after that leak, so this evening it seems that Samsung has managed to get on Judge Lucy Koh's bad side. The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said today that the Galaxy Nexus can remain on sale until August 20 despite Apple's request for its preliminary injunction against the phone to be restored, so if you've been planning to buy one, your window to do so has been extended.
