, Aug 30th 2007 Discuss [0]

I've always said that the war between Blu-ray and HD DVD will be decided by the cost related to each disc. When one of them reaches the point where any average Joe can afford them, then we'll start to see a winner. That said, the first sub-$200 HD DVD player has been released. Read The Full Story

Do you know what’s in your console?

, Aug 10th 2007 Discuss [1]

Here's a question for those of you that have either a PS3 or an Xbox 360. Do you actually watch HD movies or download additional content? 300 becomes best-selling HD movie to date

I'm currently impartial in the HD disc format wars. Until one is declared a winner, or close to it, I'm likely not going to jump on the bandwagon. For me it's a matter of cost, I don't want to drop a grand or more on equipment and movies that could be potentially rendered useless in the coming years. Perhaps that's just a little influence from my uncle that was a huge Betamax supporter. Regardless of which side you choose, there's no denying that HD discs are steadily becoming more popular. Target to carry Blu-ray for holiday season, no mention of HD DVD

, Jul 26th 2007 Discuss [0]

It looks like Target is going to try and put a nail in HD DVDs coffin by carrying a Blu-ray player and Blu-ray discs for the holiday season. Target will begin carrying the Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player sometime in October for $499. At that price, I can't really see a point in buying it. If you're thinking about buying someone a Blu-ray player for Christmas would you rather spend 500 bucks on something that just plays Blu-ray and DVDs, or something that does the same thing, and just happens to be a powerful gaming console for the same price? Though for all we know the 60GB PS3s could be gone by then and the Blu-ray player could drop in price. Read The Full Story

Who is winning the format war in Europe? No one really knows

, Jul 16th 2007 Discuss [0]

I really love numbers, they are so great to use when persuading people to believe something that may or may not actually be true. Remember when we told you that HD DVD was kicking ass and taking names over in Europe? According to that study, HD DVD players were outselling their Blu-ray competition 3:1. Now the Blu-ray Disc Association has their say on the matter. Read The Full Story

Pie charts spell impending doom for HD-DVD

I love pie charts. They can be very informative, but also misleading. I mean think about it, you can be convinced of just about anything as long as there are a series of pie charts to back it up. Read The Full Story
