RED's new Scarlet and Epic modular cameras might not even be on the market yet, but the company has already tweaked pricing, changed specifications and made what could be an even more tempting trade-in offer to owners of their original RED ONE. According to company president Jim Jannard, RED were "were a bit frustrated" with digital signal processing and REDCODE data rates inside the Scarlet and Epic "brains", so they've brought the development process even more in-house and changed the specs.

The holiday pack from Kohl's will include this new camcorder, a tripod, a 2GB SD card that can store up to two hours of HD-quality video, a protective pouch, rechargeable batteries, AV cables and ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme software for editing your footage. The holiday pack will go on sale starting on Black Friday, November 28th and will run until New Year's Eve. No word on pricing just yet, but you will be able to pick from classic silver and midnight black color options.
UK based Dreampact is developing a grenade-launcher-deployed 360-degree camera intended to give the armed forces a better idea of what territory they're entering. Dubbed I-Ball, the compact camera has two fish-eye lenses that transmit images back wirelessly to a remote operator. As well as being fired from a grenade-launcher, the I-Ball can be tossed or rolled into rooms.

Esoteric camera makers RED have been teasing their loyal user community for some time now, with the promise of new products and slivers of photos. Scarlet and EPIC are new camera capture and processing brains (we'd say 'bodies' but the RED system is so damn modular) capable of 3K and 5K video, respectively. Flip have announced their latest camcorder, the MinoHD, capable of recording 720p high-definition widescreen footage to its 4GB of internal memory. Designed with the same, ease-of-use principles as the rest of the Flip range, the MinoHD has a 1.5-inch glare-free display, minimal controls (which are touch sensitive) and built-in FlipShare editing and uploading software that installs automatically via the pop-out USB 2.0 port. In a first for the company, you can specify custom casing designs either from a range of existing options or by uploading your own image.

Canon have announced a pair of high-definition camcorders that look likely to make serious videographers (i.e. not me) weep, like little children, with joy. The XH A1S and XH G1S both record to HDV tape, have 20x lenses with manual zoom and focus, and use Canon's optical image stabilizer system. Each can record full 1080p high-definition footage.

Hitachi at CEDIA 2008 showcases a concept digital camcorder that is capable of streaming HD video to a TV display wirelessly. The prototype video camera captures video on its HDD in HD MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format, and has an SDIO standard IEEE802.11g module to transmit live feed or captured video to TV via an access point.
