Sony Action Cam AS20 hits the US in August

Sony has expanded its Action Cam offering with a new model, which it announced for the US market with a slated availability of August. There's no specific launch date, but when it does arrive, the little $200 camcorder will bring with it SteadyShot and the same small build.

This makes three action cameras for the maker, which positions them for the same market targeted by the GoPro. Joining the AS100V and the AS30V, the new AS20 will offer enthusiasts Sony's SteadyShot image stabilization for recording smooth videos despite what are typically bouncing filming situations.

The AS20 has a ZEISS Tessar lens and a 170-degree FOV, as well as the same integrated microphone for recording audio with your potentially dangerous activities. Joining this is a back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor.

Both Full HD video recording and still images can be taken, and Sony hails the newest model as offering "exceptional" quality in low-light settings. There a 28Mbps bit-rate, integrated WiFi, and an optional wearable Live-View remote, the waterproof RM-LVR1.
