ASUS Eee Pad Transformer vs Acer Iconia Tab A500

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer vs Acer Iconia Tab A500

Motorola's XOOM had its chance to sweep the Android 3.0 Honeycomb market; now the low-cost slates from Taiwan are here to steal its thunder. Acer has priced its 10.1-inch Iconia Tab A500 tablet this morning at an iPad 2 undercutting $450, while the eagle-eyed spotted ASUS' Eee Pad Transformer at a mere $400 last month before the listings were pulled. Both are expected to hit the US later in April, but how do they compare?

Best Buy yanks ASUS Transformer iPad smack ad

Best Buy yanks ASUS Transformer iPad smack ad

Best Buy didn't call out the iPad by name in their ASUS Eee Pad Transformer promotion earlier this week, but the intended identity of their "generic" comparison tablet wasn't exactly well hidden. An iPad-style slate duct taped to a keyboard, the retailer was pushing ASUS' battery-blessed keyboard dock for the Transformer. Now, though, it seems someone at Best Buy has lost their nerve, since the promo has been pulled.

Best Buy mocks iPad in Eee Pad Transformer promo

Best Buy mocks iPad in Eee Pad Transformer promo

You can't accuse Best Buy's marketing department of being afraid to shoot the golden goose. The company may be one of the few retailers to offer Apple's iPad 2, but that hasn't stopped it from taking pot-shots at the iOS slate in its new ASUS Eee Pad Transformer promotion. Showing the new 10.1-inch Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet paired with its nifty battery-toting keyboard dock, the retailer contrasts it with what's clearly an iPad taped to a keyboard with the headline "Like That. But Better."

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer walkthrough [Video]

ASUS' Eee Pad Transformer shot from me-too tablet to potential must-have slate earlier this week, as the company showed what it could achieve by thinking a little laterally from the omnipresent iPad. In a second video from the Eee Pad Transformer launch event, the Android tablet's custom app suite gets a walkthrough, complete with remote desktop support allowing you to bring your PC or Mac homescreen on the move.

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer at Best Buy Soon for $400

After having looked at this lovely new Android tablet in person yesterday, it connecting nicely to its keyboard bottom and hosting a nearly final build of Android 3.0 Honeycomb, we're quite excited to see it popping on on Best Buy for a mere $400. One of the contention points for recent Android tablet announcements has indeed been the price, prices inevitably compared to Apple's $500 wifi-only iPad trumping most of the competition, but here we've got a possible price competitor!

ASUS Eee Pad Transformer first-impressions [Video]

If you'd asked us yesterday which Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet we were most excited about, we'd probably have said Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Tab 10.1, or maybe its smaller 8.9 sibling. Now we're not so sure. SlashGear caught up with ASUS today for the official launch of the Eee Pad Transformer, the company's 10.1-inch Tegra 2 tablet that can be optionally paired with a detachable, battery-toting keyboard dock. Announced back at CES 2011, and promptly lost amid the flurry of similar slates, it turns out that ASUS could well have a winner on its hands. Read on for our first-impressions.
