Steven Spielberg interested in directing Indiana Jones reboot with Chris Pratt

There has been talk for some time now among the Hollywood rumor mill of a reboot of the Indiana Jones movies ever since Disney bought the full rights to the franchise in 2013. In addition, there has been buzz for the last few weeks about how rising star actor Chris Pratt would be a perfect fit to fill the shoes of the character famously played by Harrison Ford. Now it appears, according to Deadline, that Steven Spielberg has voiced an interest in directing such a film, should it come to fruition.

It's important to note at this point that an Indiana Jones reboot doesn't even officially exist yet; there is no script being written, no contracts being signed, and no comment from Disney about a possible film. However, vocal interest from an A-list director like Spielberg could be the catalyst needed to set the project in motion. Not to mention the fact that Spielberg directed all four of the original Indiana Jones films, and his return would surely attract audiences.

As for Pratt, it's hard to argue that he wouldn't be great in the title role. After staring in Guardians Of The Galaxy, and from the quick looks we've seen of him in the Jurassic World trailers, Indiana Jones is a character type he has nailed. There's also the fact that Pratt was picked by Spielberg to star in the latest Jurassic film, something that adds strength to the possibilities of this arrangement working out again.

The last we saw of Indiana Jones on the big screen was 2008's Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, a movie that was panned widely by critics, even with Spielberg directing. Disney took partial control of the character with its 2012 purchase of Lucasfilm, but full rights required an additional deal with Paramount a year later.
