Sony is finally listening to the gamers and releasing a new, upgraded, longer lasting battery for the PSP. The extended life battery will retail in mid December for $45.

The net gain will be 20 percent longer battery life for the original models, and 80 percent longer for the newer, slimmer, PSP-2000 models. The kit will also contain a new battery cover due to the fact that the battery bulges on the newer PSPs.

The real question is whether you’ll be able to get the battery cover in the same color as your PSP or not. But chances are, if you are willing to withstand a larger battery, you’re not too worried about the looks, just how long it’ll last. Another bonus of the extended-life battery is that if you buy one, you can use the original battery as a back-up for extra long gaming or video watching sessions such as that long plane, train, or automobile ride.
