Sony’s imminent PlayStation plans – whether for the PSP2 or the PlayStation Phone – look even more solid, with Bloomberg reporting on sources that have apparently confirmed the firm’s release schedule. According to sources, Sony will indeed announce the new PSP2 on January 27, followed by a MWC 2011 debut for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play (aka the PlayStation Phone).
Sony is also tipped to be readying a new push for networked media and entertainment, using the two new devices along with its games, movies and music services. Though mostly unknown at this stage, the plan is believed to included easier sharing between TVs, handheld devices and other gadgets.
The strategy is believed to come from a renewed effort to take on both Apple and Nintendo, one phone software developer briefed on the plans has revealed. Sony itself has declined to comment on the rumors.
