Sony PlayStation Mobile support ends

Sony tried to get mobile gamers interested in playing its games that were meant for the PS Vita on their Android devices, but it didn't grab the attention of gamers. PlayStation Mobile was originally envisioned as a way for the PS Vita gamers out there to play the same games they buy for their Sony portable on their Android devices.

The rub was that the PS Vita itself wasn't that popular and there were plenty of other games out there so Sony never gained traction for its platform. Last summer Sony announced that the end of life was coming for the PlayStation Mobile platform and that end is here.

After July 15, 2015 there will be no new content published for the platform. Once September 10 rolls around people who already own games on the platform won't even be able to download those games again. If you have games, you better not delete them or buy a new device.

The closing up of PlayStation Mobile shines a light on the inability of Sony to give its sagging mobile business an injection of the excitement that its gaming division is able to generate. I'd be rather upset about not being able to download games I already purchased come September 13 if I had been using the platform and had a bunch of games. There is no indication at this time what, if anything, Sony plans to do about that for people who have content on the platform already.
