Slack grew to 500,000 daily users in first year of service

One year ago today, Slack launched to take over enterprise communication. On their anniversary, Slack is announcing their impressive growth, and now boast over 500,000 daily users. The company also says we spend over 100 million hours connected to the platform monthly, and send around 300 million messages. Of those 500,000 members, Slack is made up of around 60,000 teams, and after earning over $100 million in funding, now boasts $12 million in annual recurring revenue. They're also adding about $1 million more in recurring revenue every two weeks.

Slack has three tiers of service, ranging from free to $12.50/month. They didn't break their subscription tiers down, but do note San Francisco uses Slack the most (shocker).

The overall numbers aren't the real story, though — it's growth. Slack has gone from 13,000 teams to 60,000 in six months' time, and seen their overall user numbers ramp similarly quick. They've also grown from a core group of 16 employees to over 100.

Of interest is that Slack is so closely tied to enterprise, which is most notable in their user growth chart. Over the Holidays, Slack saw their sign-ups plummet.

Slack might be messaging, but more is on the horizon. Now that they've acquired startup Screenhero, voice and video chat is coming to Slack, which will make it an even more enjoyable and robust platform for business users.
