Well, with the iPhone and iPod Touch coming in 8GB capacities a single expansion card slightly larger than the home button on both of the aforementioned devices is nothing to dismiss. That means that you can take just about any modern phone and grant it the same storage capacity of the iPhone.

There are also M2 cards in the same capacity for those that have compatible devices with those cards. Anyways, like I said, 8GB of storage is a lot when it can all be fit on such a tiny, tiny card.

SanDisk is launching a SlotEducation program to teach people about the card slots on their mobile devices and to show the benefits of using them. Part of that campaign is a big launch party in LA tonight, performers will include Linkin Park, Common, The Crystal Method, and Cut Chemist, so if you are in the area, stop by The Key Club, The Roxy, or the Viper Room to see your favorite artists and check out what SanDisk has to offer.

    Wow!

Can that be used in any phone as I have a phone that uses MiniSD. That would be awesome but I don’t know if it being SDHC would make a difference.

Ty, you’d need to check the specifications of your phone - only models that actually quote SDHC (rather than just SD) will be compatible.

So far compatible handsets are in the minority, sadly.

MiniSD has a theoretical max of 2 Gig, unfortunately, which I learned while checking into the same question for myself earlier, when I bought the N95, as I thought that it would be very handy to be able to swap cards between the N95 and my “old” N80…alas, no go. (snif..)

Now on the other hand, you CAN get a MicroSD-to-MiniSD adaptor so that you can still use up to 2Gig MicroSD cards in a device designed for MiniSD cards…if that helps any. ;)

If it’s just data portability between devices you’re mainly interseted in, then you can always use the SD/SDHC reader that is currently shipping with almost all SanDisk MicroSD cards, as it will natively read any SD/SDHC card, although, once again, you’ll need an adaptor for MiniSD cards, as it only comes with a MicroSD-to-SD adaptor.

Final thought: Since MicroSD-to-MiniSD, MiniSD-to-SD, and MicroSD-to-MiniSD adaptors are basically nothing more than electrical traces in plastic cases (pardon the rhyme) without no underlying electronics in them, you shold theoretically be able to purchase an adaptor of the type you want/need from ANY vendor…I got a 512Meg ATP MicroSD reader with a MiniSD-to-SD and MicroSD-to-MiniSD adaptor in one kit for under $40.00, and it’s come in quite handy! That might be the perfect solution for you if you’ve also got a laptop with a built-in SD reader, as it was in my case…although I’d recommend you spring for the 2Gig card kit…I was just being cheap on that particular day. d;o)
