Worth Reading?

NoYes

Sometimes you really really want a gadget to be great, but it just fails to live up to expectations; the Sirius Satellite is one such example, and now it’s looking like Samsung’s gorgeous SGH-D830 cellphone might be another.  Proudly boasting its status as current World’s Slimmest Clamshell Cellphone, at 9.9mm thick, and solidly made of metal with minimal plastic, this latest addition to Samsung’s “Ultra” range is undeniably tactile – sadly MobileBurn found that using it in action was a real let-down.

So what was so bad?  Well, the keys have very limited travel and give little tactile feedback, making texting a slow and painful process; the speaker is anaemic and struggles to make itself heard; battery life is sub-par, thanks to the huge & bright screen; and, while the 2 megapixel camera performs well, the images it captures can’t be saved to microSD card and instead are limited to the 80mb of built-in storage.

It’s a poor showing for what ought to be Samsung’s flagship handset, and manages to achieve a “Not Recommended” result.

The SGH-D830 is actually the world’s thinnest folder style phone, not the thinnest phone in general.

Ah, you’re right – I’ve edited the article accordingly. Thanks for the feedback, Brad.
