Pioneer Apple CarPlay integration begins this summer

Supposing you've already gotten an in-dash receiver this year – inside 2014, that is – and you bought it from Pioneer, you're in for an Apple-flavored treat. The company has suggested that each of the five units they've released in the year 2014 will be upgraded to Apple CarPlay in early summer, 2014. This means soon, and very soon.

The units set to receive Apple CarPlay are as follows: AVIC-8000NEX, AVIC-7000NEX, AVIC-6000NEX, AVIC-5000NEX, and AVH-4000NEX. If you have one of these units, you'll see an update sooner than later. They're also out in the wild now from stores like Car Toys and Best Buy.

Brands like Mercedez-Benz and Volvo have also integrated – or will integrate soon – Apple's CarPlay system into their vehicles. Pioneer offers one of the least expensive solutions with the AVIC-5000NEX, ringing in at $700 USD.

Just yesterday the folks at Alpine let it be known that they'll be one of the least expensive aftermarket solutions for CarPlay. Converted to US dollars, these systems are set to arrive this fall with prices from $500 to $700 USD.
