4G Motorola devices in early 2011; tablets imminent & Verizon iPhone tipped for Q1

Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha has confirmed that the company "will have 4G devices in the marketplace early next year," while both 7-inch and 10-inch tablets are also close in the pipeline. Speaking at the Credit Suisse 2010 Technology Conference this week, Jha said that Motorola would look to custom software to differentiate its tablets from the rest of the market, with particular emphasis on the enterprise and retail segments. Meanwhile, he also dropped a heavy hint regarding what could be Verizon's iPhone launch early in 2011.

Motorola Changes Name, Announces New Board of Directors [UPDATE: Split in Two!]

Generally it's pretty large news when your company decides to change its name, yes? Maybe not so much when it's such a tiny one - or is it? Announced today, but effective January 4th, 2011, Motorola, Inc. will change its name to Motorola Solutions, Inc. and will change its ticker symbol on the New York Stock Exchange from MOT to MSI. Additionally, they'll switch over to a brand new board of directors (listed below) which includes election of Greg Brown to the "additional role" of chairman (effective May 2011) plus Dave Dorman's transition to lead independent director.

ITC to investigate Microsoft’s patent complaint over Motorola

Microsoft's patent suit against Motorola will definitely be escalated into a full US International Trade Commission investigation, according to the USITC.  Microsoft alleges that Motorola infringes several patents in its range of Android devices, including how the smartphones synchronize contacts, calendars, and email; schedule emails; and notify applications of changes in signal strength and battery power.

Motorola’s Windows Phone 7 plans “open” despite recent patent suit

You can't have missed Motorola's Android push over the past few months - with another few handsets making their official debut in the past 24 hours - but the company isn't counting out Windows Phone 7.  After Microsoft filed a lawsuit against Motorola on Friday, alleging patent infringement by the company's Android line-up, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha has said that lawsuits of this sort are just "part of business" and that his company is "open to finding ways to work with Microsoft, but it has to be a compelling offering."

Motorola Droid Pro for Verizon Announced, Due in the Coming Weeks

At tonight's CTIA event, Motorola took some time out of their busy schedule to announce the Motorola Droid Pro. While it may not look like the other Droid-based products that have launched on Verizon, from either Motorola or HTC, it's definitely got the feature set to warrant the title. Featuring a candy-bar style, "BlackBerry-esque" look, along with a capacitive touchscreen atop the full QWERTY keyboard, the Droid Pro will stand out amongst the crowd.
