EE launches EE Film for mobile video rentals (hands-on)

EE's new 4G plans for the UK have been revealed, but the carrier also has a new movie store, EE Film, for both its own subscribers and those of other carriers. Preloaded on EE handsets, such as the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S III 4G LTE, and Galaxy Note II 4G LTE, but also available to other smartphone users to download, EE Film will offer what the network says is the best selection of new releases of any UK rental service, on a par with DVDs.

Fox will offer digital movies weeks before DVD release

Fans of digital media have a reason to smile today, as Fox has revealed that it will begin offering digital versions of its movies weeks before physical Blu-ray and DVDs release. The first movie that will getting this treatment is Prometheus, which is scheduled to release on Blu-ray and DVD on October 11. Fox will begin offering the high-definition digital version of the movie on September 18, giving those who don't mind losing the disc about a three week jump on those who do mind.

Well folks, the end of Thursday is nearly upon us, which means we'll be kicking off the weekend soon. Today brought quite a bit more news about the Apple vs. Samsung trial than yesterday did, with Samsung's lawyer fighting back against allegations made by Apple's counsel. Things aren't looking too good for Samsung though, as it appears that Judge Lucy Koh has thrown out quite a bit of the company's evidence, and now Apple is requesting sanctions that uphold its patents based on yesterday's evidence leak. The upside to all of this, however, is that we got another peek at an early iPhone prototype today, so be sure to check that one out.

Michael Fassbender signed for Assassin’s Creed movie

The undeniably popular video game series Assassin's Creed has a film adaptation in the works and this week none other than Michael Fassbender has signed on for the full ride. The most recent entry in the Assasin's Creed video game series features a set of assassins who throughout history have been cutting down England's Knights Templar, finding themselves once again murdering the lot of them in Revolutionary War - aka the American War of Independence if you're reading this from the UK. Fassbender will likely be playing Desmond Miles, a modern-day barman sent back in time to live in the role of one of these legendary assassins.
