Remember back in March when analysts were talking about how the release of Grand Theft Auto IV might cause potential viewers to skip out on seeing Iron Man on opening weekend? Well if they did choose to stay home, no one noticed.

Iron Man

According to the sales figures for opening weekend, the Marvel flick managed to pull in a whopping $100.75 million. This puts the movie at number 10 overall for best opening weekend, and in the second slot for a non-sequel debut. The first spot? None other than Marvel’s Spider-Man.

So was a geek movie affected by a video game? I seriously doubt it. I’m sure that there were a few people that didn’t feel like dropping the cash a week after paying $60 (or $90) for a new game, but many like myself chose to have the best of both worlds.

Iron Man was a practically flawless hero flick; its makers drop some pretty obvious sequel hints too… i’m thinking the next one should be equally great
