Nokia’s N86 NAM edition has finally shown up for sale in the US, offering S60-loving photography addicts what could be the perfect smartphone for their dual desires. Announced all the way back at Mobile World Congress in February, the N86 packs an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, flash and Carl Zeiss optics, and is priced at $468.99.

The phone had been previously tipped for an August 22nd launch in the US, a date which merrily wheeled past with nary a sign of the high-spec snapper. Still, there are plenty of people who have seen this as a smartphone worth waiting for, offering as it does 3G HSDPA/HSUPA, a 2.6-inch OLED display running at 240 x 320 QVGA resolution, and 8GB of onboard memory augmented with microSD cards.

Yes, it was one of the prototype handsets Nokia had produced for Mobile World Congress back in February. Unfortunately nobody noticed – until they were delivered – that they’d put the wrong model number on the phone. It’s an N86 8MP, certainly, it just says the wrong thing on the fascia :)
