Next iPad rumored to officially come with gold color option

Fashionistas and socialites might soon have something to root for. Apple is now rumored to soon make available a gold option for the next generation iPad expected to be unveiled this October. This will give those with a love of gold an option that will be close enough to more luxurious gold plating without costing as much.

This isn't exactly an unprecedented color option. Apple also made gold a choice for the iPhone 5s, though only for the back plate while the front face still sported the conventional white. When it comes to bold color changes, however, it was the iPhone 5c that really broke from tradition by offering vibrant colors.

The change, however, will be unheard of at least from the iPad perspective, which so far has only come in more subdued tones of silver and gray. It's still unknown what the end result will look like but, considering the iPad has an undivided back compared to iPhones, it's bound to be a bit different from how the iPhone 5s gold model looks. Then again, the final design of the next iPads isn't set in stone just yet, and, as the iPhone 6 proves, Apple has no qualms about breaking tradition.

This new design is being poised as Apple's attempt to reinvigorate the iPad market, which is said to be in decline, or at least isn't growing exponentially. Although heralded to have pioneered the personal tablet category, the iPad has given way to larger phones or competing (Android) models. The iPhone 6 Plus itself somewhat threatens to eat into the iPad's following.

That said, this color change is only skin deep and consumers are more likely to look for more reasons to invest in a new iPad. Then again, there are some who do not need such reasons to buy a new iPad. The alleged iPad market decline can also be attributed to the usual lull before a new product is introduced and sales are likely to pick up once more when the new iPads are unveiled, hopefully by 21st October as previously rumored.
