Mighty No. 9 hits Kickstarter goal as campaign reaches its end

Megaman has firm a place in the hearts of many, the evidence of which is blatant in the runaway success of its descendant — Mighty No. 9's — Kickstarter campaign. The funding goal was ambitious, seeking millions, yet saw its milestones reached at a clipped rate, such as the unlocking of PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U versions back on September 17. The campaign reached its end on Kickstarter this evening, managing to hit its goal ahead of the countdown timer.

The folks behind Mighty No. 9 aimed to achieve $4 million in funding, a hefty number preceded by many financial milestones, each unlocking another perk ranging from specific console versions to challenge modes, online co-op, and more. At the end of the funding period, which lasted 31 days, 67,226 backers pledged a total of $3,845,170, with the original goal having been "only" $900,000.

Also factored into the total amount funded, however, was its PayPal offerings, which totaled $186,380 at the end of the Kickstarter campaign, bringing the entire project to — and beyond — its high-end $4,000,000 goal. With this achievement, in addition to the Wii U, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 versions we reported on a couple weeks ago, the game will also be coming to the Vita, 3DS, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

It would seem the most popular pledge amount was the $20 range, though thousands of pledges are seen at a variety of price points across the board. At the high end of things, four backers forked out $10,000 or more, a pledge that earns them dinner with Keiji Inafune, among other awards. Recently, the team announced that the composer Tateishi, who worked with the Mega Man 2 team, has joined the Mighty No. 9 ranks.
