zuneoriginals zune80Everyone knows that if you order your iPod from Apple online you get the option to customize is with up to two lines of text across the back. Well Microsoft is taking it a step further with their new Zunes and offering up 4 lines of text and even the option to have an entire piece of art engraved on the back.

The new 4, 8, and 80GB Zunes that are dropping tomorrow will have this option of customization, but the real question is, will Microsoft be selling the customized Zunes or do they have a deal worked out with one of their third party retailers where they take care of it all? I think it would be nice to see Microsoft actually start selling something hardware wise themselves.

Anyways, onto the artwork, I am pretty sure you can’t upload any old piece of art you want, but they have 30+ options from some pretty popular artists. I’ve got to admit, of the few pieces I’ve seen, they actually do add some appeal to the players themselves.

Yes, they look cool and maybe it will sway a few people to buy a Zune, but I still believe Apple will have the biggest market share of the porible media device for a long long time. Well at least until Microsoft comes out with the JesusZune.

It is amazing your article’s title “Microsoft to excel past Apple with new Zune Originals” ha ha ha, I thought It was something much more important. Those art engravings are really ugly, even adding any other the user wants. That doesn’t change a bit, that the iPod is a way better and prettier and than the ugly imitation named Zune. Lets Face it ! MS DOES NOT HAVE ANY TASTE !

THIS is exactly why Apple fans are hated. Is it at all possible not to feel so superior to those who may actually like Zune? After all, the art is a matter of taste, is it not? Comments like yours make it so much harder to convince my friends who do not use a Mac/iPod to use one.

Can you etch on plastic, tho’? I guess it’s screen printed. I hope it doesn’t stain when its rubbed on.

I honestly don’t think it’s going to make the Zune “excel”…it’s neat…but it’s not going to increase sales that much. I’ve never owned one of them, but the one i TRIED to use in a store demo was frustrating to say the least. I’ll stick with my iPod, tried and true it works and is easy to use. :)

If marketed well, it will probably do very well. Though it may not beat the iPod since it’s so common these days… kind of like Starbucks :). Zune is fresh and I think it looks beautiful. Some of my friends and classmates are thinking about getting one, so it might be a lot of fun sharing music wirelessly. You might even run into a stranger who has one and share music… a pretty cool concept. And I love the interface with the thin font – really geared towards the graphic art-conscious person.

woops was gonna add some text to that… well here it comes… to you Octavio i can say the exact same thing about the Pc and Mac… that Macs Suck if you are not a photograph and you can still do the same things on a Pc that you can do on a Mac But a Mac cant do everything a Pc can… for instance Mac uses Microsoft Word, internet explorer… so Mac is a rip off on Pc in that Case
