Microsoft reportedly bought calendar app Sunrise

Microsoft is doing what most large tech companies do: they're acquiring others to make their own services stronger. Today, Microsoft has apparently purchased Sunrise, the company who makes a calendar app of the same name, for north of $100 million. A cross-platform service, Sunrise does what any good calendar app does in merging your disparate profiles into one easy to manage schedule of events. Sunrise also links to various other services like Facebook, where your events will show up in your main calendar.

Notably, Sunrise makes a dedicated effort to support iOS and Android, as well as Google calendar and iCloud's calendar feature. Microsoft has made similar moves with their own services, making Sunrise an ideal fit.

Sunrise will probably find itself following the same road as Acompli, Microsoft's email grab. Recently, Microsoft worked much of what made Acompli cool into their Outlook app for mobile, which has instantly garnered widespread praise. It's not clear if Microsoft will run Sunrise as a standalone service in addition to using their feature-rich tech in their own calendar offering. After snapping up Acompli, Microsoft shuttered the service and migrated its features to Outlook.

Office is a pillar for success at Microsoft, and this acquisition would only serve to further enhance that service. It would also show Microsoft's increased dedication to mobile, a forum they once failed in.

Microsoft hasn't yet commented on the news, nor has Sunrise.
