It has a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen and a menu similar to that of the PRADA cell phones. In fact, save for the slide out number pad, it kind of looks like a more generic version of the PRADA phone.

There is also a 2MP camera with flash, EV-DO, Bluetooth, and a microSD card slot for up to 4GB of memory. There is an integrated media player that will play MP3, WMA, AAC, and AAC+ audio files, either through a set of connected headphones or over the A2DP Bluetooth profile.

When connected to a PC you can also use the phone as a mass storage USB device. You get 3.5 hours of talk time or 7 days of standby time from the battery, as for size, it weighs 4.48 ounces, and measures in at 4×2.05x.59 inches in size. No word on price, or availability, but if they are already printing flyers it can’t be too far off.

James, I disagree with your apparent dislike of Alltel with the title of the post. Do you have any reason other than they don’t have as many customers as the ‘big four’ carriers? It’s great that some other carriers besides Sprint can release phones like these. Alltel is rated more highly than AT&T and Sprint all the time. Maybe you don’t think they’re all that, but 11+ million customers sure think otherwise.

other than the lack of coverage locally, no, i don’t really have a problem with them, their commercials are pretty dumb, but thats not really an issue with the company, the coverage is my biggest issue

i have fairly good coverage (even 3G from ATT and Sprint) from all carriers except T-Mobile and Alltel, so really, that is my only problem with Alltel, it wasn’t slant towards their business practices or anything.

James, where do you go or travel that you don’t have good coverage?? Alltel has the largest network that any other carrier.

I have had T-mobile, AT&T, Helio(terrible), and now Alltel within the last 12 months. Alltel by far has the best reception and coverage out of all of the listed companies. Even better than Verizon who claims to have the best network. I have been to Virginia, D.C., S.C., N.C., Texas, and California with my Alltel phone and it has better coverage than any of the other carriers that my friends have in all those places. Alltel does not get enough credit for what they are. They did, in fact, use to be one of the worst companies about 6 years ago, but in the last three years, have stepped up to become, in my opinion, the best company out there as far as customer service and reception/coverage goes. The closest one in my opinion would be T-Mobile. I am glad to see this phone coming to Alltel and think it is the first of many to head this way.

If you live in the South and not in a large city, there is nobody that even comes close to the coverage of Alltel. What’s wrong with the commercials? They are at least entertaining different that the “get more bars” and “PradoChicMiamVenice” commercials that ‘AT&T formerly Cingular formerly AT&T formerly Cingular’ puts out..

Alltel does not have towers in large metro areas, the north east, or california, but, it does have the largest native footprint of any carrier, and either way, when you join alltel, verizon, or sprint you will have the same coverage pretty much, but alltel will get better suburbs (they all share towers under roaming partnership). As far as network, the great thing about alltel is that it is EVDO in more places and since it doesnt have much customers its network doesnt reach capacity as much as verizons, if anythin sprint beats the EVDO, but, sprint has crappy service once you exit downtown metropolis. In the past 6 years alltel grew nearly exponentionally, and it is the cheapest from all companies once you compare features/plans. Also, please do not compare att and t mobile with these companies… GSM and their EDGE is a JOKE compared to even 1X, and to EVDO its like dial up against cable. And with REV-A coming to alltel in no time, even better… By the way you can watch youtube in this phone, and the GUI is very iphone like… plus its made out of metal in the outside!!!!

I am the only one in my click of friends with Alltel, I am also the only one who has constant signal. My only problem with Alltel is the phone selections. So now that we got the Glimmer I’m excited. I’m just not sure whether to get the LG Glimmer or the Motorola Razr 2, any thoughts?

please, for the love of all things sacred, do not buy a Razr2

i mean seriously, how could a company like Motorola drop the RAZR2 offering only mediocre upgrades from the original RAZR and then try charging $500 a piece for them?

go with the glimmer, you’ll probably look like less of a tool with it in your hands than the Razr2

I am planning to switch to Alltel and my choice is pretty clear after they launched the Glimmer.I have heard about the questionable reliability of LG phones, but a touch screen is better than all the other stupid phones they have.(BB pearl was my other choice, but i didnt want to be on their mandatory dataplan).I went to the store – touched and played with one.I still have doubts but am gonna go for it.

Maybe I just live too far in the “sticks”. Who knows. I had Alltel for 2 years and NEVER ONCE got a signal at my house. Now, with AT&T I have full service at my house…and pretty much everywhere else for that matter. Just my 2 cents though, I spose.

well, two days ago, i bought the glimmer over the razr2….i love it actualy…but am starting to second guess myself..i mean the touchscreen is great and the color is amazing…the screen is so clear and large…but the major thing that irritates me is the ringer…you can’t hear it at all…it starts out very low and then gradually gets louder, but at its loudest point you can barely hear it….ive missed many calls already….and you can share files with bluetooth but if you share songs, you cant use them as ringtones so you are stuck with the poly ring tones….so i figured i’d buy some ringtones from ringtone jukebox…i bought one just to see if it were any louder than the regular ringtones….NO…actually it was worse….alothough i reallllly like the glimimer, its really cool and has a great camera and videos and it looks good too, i’d have to say go with with razr2….but thats just me, im just gettin irritated with not being able to hear any of my calls or texts when i receive them……im more than likely going to take it back and get the razr2….

They’ve solved the issue of low ringing in the phone. Go to settings in your menu click on phone information, then to number 5 software update and in 5 minutes you have the problem solved.

A quick comment on Alltel – I’ve used Sprint, Nextel and Alltel each for a number of years. Alltel clearly isn’t focused on large metropolitan areas but it dominates in the area I live in the Southeast. Alltel does offer less phones, less features and less cool advertising but by far the reception and clarity of calls is superior to other carriers I’ve used.

Also, my customer service experience has been much better with Alltel. I had a nightmarish experience with Sprint and swore I’d never use them again. When they bought Nextel I ran the other way.

I just ordered the LG Glimmer in large part due to favorable customer reviews.

Marky… Thank you so much for the bit of knowledge on the update to fix the ringer. I LOVE the Glimmer so much (would never get another razor as I have had so many problems with razors freezing… etc).

I acutally bought a Glimmer when they first came out and loved it! The only thing was the fact that I could never hear it ring and I missed a lot of calls. Eventually, I changed to another phone due to the inconvenience. Today, I decided to switch back to my Glimmer. I phoned tech support at Alltel, they advised me to have the store put the latest software update on the phone. I took the phone to the store, and they told me the update would not fix the ringer problem. Frustrated, I started doing a web search and came accross this message board. Taking Marky’s advice, I tried the update myself and now the problem is fixed. Now there is absoutely no reason not to love my LG Glimmer!

Regarding Alltel’s service: by far, it is superior to any carrier out there and trust me, I have used them all. Living in the midwest, not many of the carriers work here, but Alltel is the best. I get a great signal and I have very few dropped calls. My only disappointment I guess I can say is the local store. They would sell a lot more of the LG Glimmer if people knew there was a fix!

I was just recently looking at the LG Glimmer, and i am trying to convince my mom to get it for me…

She doesn’t want to renew the contract, and even doing so, it is VERY expensive…

I really like the LG Shine and would love to have it… it’s just that i dont have AT&T, so it’s out of the question!

Can anyone think of any ways to help me convince my mom to get it for me…

I have a quick question about the Glimmer and I’m looking for some help… PLEEEASE. I’m thinking about buying one, but I just looked them up on ebay and I realized that there are two different ones. The LG Glimmer AX830 and the LG Glimmer UX830. What’s the difference between the two? Which one is better? I really want to make sure before spending all the money on this phone. It is a little pricey, but it looks like a great phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Oh, and does the thing with the ringer work on all phones?

I tried this and I got a message saying update package not available. Anyone know what this means exactly and what I have to do to get it?

    Thanks

Does anyone know how to turn off the chat option? It slows my phone way down.

They are mediocre phones, sure they look decent, but my last one would always tell me texts werent going and they were, and my friend has had 3 of them and the first two the touch screens died.

I will say alltels exchange by mail and customer service is amazing, and has been very helpful with any issues I have had

I Have Alltel & Just Got The LG Glimmer A Couple Weeks Ago. I Love The Glimmer Its A Great Phone. At The Same Time I Do Have To Agree With James On Coverage I Get Nothing But Absolute Horrible Service At My School,In Parts Of My House, At The Mall. I Drop Calls Like Crazy. Besides That Alltel Is A Pretty Good Service Even Though They Do Have A Very Poor Selection Of Phones To Choose From The Glimmer Is Their Best Phone By Far. And James So What If They Have “Dumb Commercials” As Long As Your In Business & Making Money You Can Have & Do Whatever You Want With Your Company In My Opinion.

I bought an lg glimmer in september and i had no problems with it, but for about the past month now the touch screen on mine has been absolutely terrible. i can hardly push anything anymore. I’m planning on taking it to the alltel store in the next few days to see whats up with it..

I have to say I’m not happy with the glimmer. Like several other posts the touch screen on mine has stopped working within a month. Yes, alltel did an exchange by phone but I’m not hopeful after reading the post about someone having 2 touch screens go bad. It would be ok if most features had a push-button alternative to the touch screen. Having to try and backup my phone list to alltel with a bad touch screen was a major pain.

Will never buy an expensive phone again. Get the best free one or something a little fancier for $20-40 but nothing like these things again. the glimmer and razor are both a joke.
