inPulse smartwatch one step closer to release

It's taking a while, but the inPulse smartwatch for BlackBerry handsets is one step closer to commercial launch, with the news that the components have now turned up ready for assembly.  The smartwatch basically hooks up to your BlackBerry via Bluetooth and acts as a remote wireless display: you can preview the ID of incoming calls, see message headers and manage alarms without having to take your phone out of your pocket.

First spotted in October last year, the smartwatch isn't intended to be a complete replacement for your phone, just a way of better managing your time with it.  You can't actually make Dick Tracy style voice calls on it, either, though whether people would actually do that is another question.

inPulse aren't saying when they expect the smartwatch to go on sale – they don't want to promise a date and then let people down, having already missed the previous February 2010 estimate – but you can still preorder the watch here.  It's priced at $149.
