As the countdown to the Lenovo IdeaPad U110 continues, we’ve finally got the full spec-list and the landing page for orders. Priced at $1,899, it confirms that the ultraportable will not have an internal optical drive but will instead ship with an external, USB DVD burner. It also suggests how Lenovo themselves see the U110 differentiating from their own ThinkPad X300: the IdeaPad will be “focused to the consumer” and, at least at first, have a normal 120GB 4,200rpm PATA hard-drive compared to the X300’s SSD.

At first, Lenovo will be offering a single configuration of the U110, with the only choice being a red or black lid section. Both the 4-cell and 7-cell batteries will be included.

  • Intel Merom Processor Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz (4 MB cache, 800 MHz FSB)
  • 2GB PC2-5300/667 MHz RAM (up to 3GB supported)
  • 120 GB 4200 rpm PATA HDD
  • System ships with two batteries: 4-cell and 7-cell, plus an external USB portable DVD burner
  • Focused to the consumer
  • 18.4 - 22.4 mm
  • Starting weight of 2.4 lbs
  • 11.1-inch 16:9 LED-backlit WXGA screen (1366 x 768)
  • Intel X3100 integrated Graphics
  • Aluminum etch cover and Magnesium Aluminum case
  • Frameless screen
  • Touch-sensitive controls
  • Vista Home Premium
  • Dolby Home Theatre Speaker System
  • Veriface security authentication
  • Integrated 1.3 megapixel camera
  • 3 USB 2.0 ports
  • 6 in 1 card reader
  • Express Card slot
  • Mini-PCIe slot
  • IdeaPad U110

Battery life is rated at around 8hrs with both the 4-cell Li-Ion plus the 7-cell Li-Ion. On their own, the 4-cell manages approximately 2hrs, the 7-cell approximately 6hrs. Shipping times for the red model are quoted as 3-5 days, while the black says 2-3 weeks for availability.  Make sure to check out the video of the IdeaPad U110 in action in our earlier post! Is anyone planning on placing an order for the Lenovo when it goes on sale today? Let us know in the comments.

I was interested until I went to the order site and found, “Lenovo recommends Windows Vista® Business for business computing.” You can’t get one without vista.

Without linux, I could only use it for games. I don’t do anything I care about in windows.
