Huawei P9 specs leak ahead of press event

Huawei fans around the world will get official details on the Huawei P9 smartphone tomorrow when the official press event for the device is held. Ahead of that official press event, the leaks are still coming hot and heavy. Specifications and benchmarks have turned up hinting at what we will hear tomorrow at the official press event.

The leaked details come courtesy of GFXBench with specifications of the device gleaned from the results. The smartphone is listed as having a 5.2-inch screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The chip running the show is a Huawei Kirin 955 HiSilicon octacore unit with a quartet of ARM Cortex-A53 cores and a quartet of ARM Cortex-A72 cores. The fastest of those eight cores are clocked at 2.5 GHz.

That processor is paired with a Mali-T880 GPU and 3GB of RAM. The amount of RAM might be a disappointment for fans who were hoping for more. Internal storage is 32GB. Speculation suggests that there might be a premium version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. We only have hours to go to find out if that speculation is accurate. One of the big features of the P9 will be its camera.

The rear 12MP camera has Leica optics and rumors say there will be some sort of dual camera. The smartphone is expected to support 4K video and an 8MP front camera. Other hardware features include Gigabit WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC. Power is from a 2900 mAh internal battery and the smartphone is expected to have a fingerprint reader. Out of the box, the OS is said to be Android Marshmallow. Pricing has turned up already at European websites and the P9 is listed at 599.90 euros putting it in the high-end range of devices. Check with us tomorrow for details from the press event.
