Worth Reading?
That’s right; you can now get a thin-client in a mobile form. It doesn’t have a hard drive per se, but rather a 1GB flash drive that can hold the Windows XPe OS and maybe a few other apps, likely just the ones necessary to access the remote apps.
It has 1GB of RAM, a 1.06GHz single core Celeron processor, a 15.4” LCD, and integrated Intel GMA950 graphics. WiFi integrated, but WWAN access is on you via an expansion card or USB adapter.
Now for my opinion, Thin-Clients as an idea are dumb, I had the displeasure of dealing with them in high school and even the school’s admins said they were the worst idea the school had ever had, that said, I can see some instances where they would work well such as industries where field techs just access and fill in remote database forms, such as insurance adjusters, warehouse staff, and things like that. However, even in those fields, a 5.4 pound laptop with these weak stats and a $725 price tag and there is no way they are going to sell a single one, and if they do, whoever buys it is dumb, just plain dumb, you can buy a fully fleshed out laptop that’s lighter and better suited for this type of work for $400 or less and then the person using it can do other productive tasks on it as well, so, like I said, this is just dumb.
