While we appreciated having HDMI connectivity on the HTC EVO 4G, Sprint's decision not to bundle the necessary mini HDMI to HDMI cable in the box seemed like unnecessary cost-cutting on a premium phone. Happily details of a far slicker solution have emerged, with a Best Buy flier tipping an incoming docking station for the EVO 4G.
Listed as "coming soon" with neither pricing nor specific availability, the exact details of the dock aren't given. However, from the photo it's clear that there are both mini HDMI and microUSB plugs for the EVO 4G's two base-mounted ports, so we're assuming the dock will not only allow for HDMI connections - hopefully with a full-sized HDMI port on the back - but also recharging and perhaps even PC sync.
Curiously, some testing of the HDMI output has left reviewers - and HDTVs, for that matter - confused as to what exactly the EVO 4G is pumping out. Some have recognized it as only 480p, and certain apps - Sprint TV being notable on the list - won't output at all.
