Worth Reading?

NoYes

This is a small blow to Blu-Ray and their customers, because HD DVD players connected to the Internet will get a 2.0 firmware update today.  The new version adds support for 24-bit/96kHz discrete audio channels with TrueHD 5.1.  One point goes to HD DVD.

This is good news for Toshiba owners and HD consumers because they are getting the features they already paid for.

I don’t think it’s a blow to Blu-Ray. The competition between both sides will result in better quality for the consumer once all the smoke clears.

We didn’t pay for TrueHD 5.1 The spec only requires stereo Mode. This will just be icing on the cake. Considering Bluray currently has zero titles with ANY advanced codec, this will absolutely be a blow to them.
