Gazelle: Samsung users want the iPhone 6, too

With iPhone 6 fervor at fever-pitch levels, consumers are doing just about everything they can to get their hands on one. The expensive device causes some to trade in their current handset, but who's selling and who's buying? We reached out to one of the leading smartphone trade-in companies to find out.

Gazelle has been seeing a fervent amount of interest in the iPhone 6 since they launched their trade-in campaign for the device. Now that the iPhone 6 is here, we wanted a touch of closure on a previous report of ours. Here's what we found.

The iPhone 5 represents 38% of items being traded in, which is reasonable considering many of those users are just about due for an upgrade. Gazelle also says the iPhone 5S and 5C represent 30% of their iPhone trade-ins, suggesting people don't care much about waiting for their "proper" upgrade cycle.

Comparatively, the iPhone 5 was responsible for 23% of iPhone trade-ins ahead of the iPhone 5S release.

But hey, iOS users aren't the only ones excited for the iPhone 6. For all the smack Samsung as a company talks about the bigger iPhone, many of their users seem ready to make the move. Gazelle says Samsung trade-ins tripled week over week ahead of the iPhone 6 launch today.

As for the Android crowd en masse, Gazelle polls say roughly 33% are likely to snatch an iPhone 6. A smooth 39% of them say the larger iPhone 6 screen options are driving them to switch, while 33% say a longer lasting battery entice them.

Android users are largely staying put, though. Gazelle tells us "more than 40 percent of respondents say the technical features available on Android devices are what has prevented them from switching to iOS."
