It’s being called the “One” laptop and will be launched at the Education Show in Birmingham on the 28th. It will be Linux based, have a 3 hours battery life, and WiFi.

Much like the Eee, the storage will be flash based, it will come with a rugged case and a wireless music server of some sort. Not only will they be selling what is to be the cheapest laptop so far, but for every 100 they sell they’ll be giving one away to some kid who needs it.

Like its more popular siblings, the One laptop will be a lightweight (1kg) notebook that is small and compact and perfect for toting to class. The notebook is being squarely aimed at students in the UK who need, or could use, a cheap notebook for class work, no word on when it will go on sale, or when, but £99 is damned cheap for a laptop.

Only for UK’s market..? It’ll be wonderful if it sells around the world. Everybody needs cheap laptop!

I’d like to see it for sale at 99 pounds. Lots of firms claim they can produce a laptop for 100 quid, but when they actually come to market, it is miles away from that price.
