Well, if you were lucky enough to snag an Eee, or if you suspect you are getting one as some physical representation of another’s love for you, and you aren’t too happy with the Xandros Linux distro that comes with it, there is a solution. Some savvy Linux people were kind enough to customize the Xubuntu LiveCD so it will work with your Asus Eee PC.

Now, the idea with a LiveCD is that you can pop it in and give the OS a whirl without actually installing it, you know, kind of a try it before you buy it type of deal. Then if you like it, you click the Install icon on the desktop and it will install it for you.

I like Ubuntu because it’s so easy to use, Xubuntu is the same thing just with a much lighter window manager and more simplified desktop environment that makes it good for PC’s with low graphics and processing power, such as the Eee PC. Ewdi, our resident former Red Hat developer, thinks that Ubuntu is just this side of the devil because you don’t learn anything from using it, but what does he know right? Anyways, you can get the liveCD from eeeuser.com’s new eeeXubuntu wiki.
