Circuit City may gain new life under Systemax

Systemax already owns TigerDirect and recently acquired CompUSA, which the company has plans to revive, but the computer company is looking to expand even further with the acquisition of the Circuit City name.

They will have to put in a bid before May 11th. The estimated cost for this venture would be $6.5 million–this includes the website and the brand name. We currently don't know if anyone else is bidding on it, or if Systemax will even go through with this, but it seems a likely move.

Especially when you consider the forward-thinking moves Systemax has been taking lately by reopening CompUSA stores with a different attitude (easing up on demo unit restrictions and matching online prices) and expanding their retail presence.
