Captain turns your grocery list into navigation directions on Apple Watch

If you struggle with your weekly grocery list, wandering around your local store trying to remember what items you need to buy, a reminder or list app for your smartphone is probably what you need. But imagine instead an app not only knows where your needed items are within the store, but remembers what items you regularly get from which store. That's what the app Capitan aims to do from your Apple Watch.

Developer Latio says they envision an "A.I.-powered shopping list [that has] learned your habits." If you usually buy your fruit and vegetables from store A, but bread and meat from store B, Captain will show those respective lists once you enter one of those stores. The app also learns where items are within stores through anonymous data aggregation, allowing it to give you turn-by-turn directions through the isles to your favorite ice cream.

The catch is that the grocery stores where you shop must have WiFi or beacons installed in order for Captain to triangulate the position of where items are. The aggregated data comes from tracking where people were standing in the store when they crossed a certain item off their list. GPS is used to know when you arrive at a store and bring up the shopping list for that location.

Latio says are working on the beta version now, but hope to have Captain ready for when the Apple Watch launches in April. There will be a corresponding iPhone app that will be used for entering items to lists and controlling settings. While it won't be a free app, final pricing is still being determined.
